Apple is undergoing a significant organizational restructuring across teams focused on Vision Pro, Siri, and various artificial intelligence functionalities. This strategic overhaul reflects a shift in priorities, aiming to allocate increased resources toward advanced AI development and future smart glasses technology.
Scope of the Reorganization
More than 200 positions are impacted by these changes. Approximately 100 eliminations relate specifically to the organization managing Vision Pro, while another hundred are tied to Siri and various software teams, including Intelligent Systems Experience (ISE), which handles certain AI functionalities integrated into Apple devices.
Apple confirmed these restructuring efforts to Bloomberg, explaining that the goal is to evolve its operations and provide users with the best possible experiences. The company noted that it also plans to create new roles simultaneously and will allow affected employees opportunities to apply for other internal functions.
Changes Within Core Divisions
Vision Pro Adjustments
For Vision Pro specifically, Apple is significantly scaling back both the team dedicated to developing games for the headset and the group responsible for producing Apple Immersive Video content. The company anticipates generating fewer immersive videos internally, planning instead to rely more heavily on third-party created content.
Siri Overhaul
The changes related to Siri stem from a major technical rebuild of the assistant. This new architectural foundation modifies the necessary skill sets required for its development. Consequently, while some positions are eliminated, new functions are being created to support this next generation of Siri.
Intelligent Systems Experience (ISE)
The ISE team is also affected by the reorganization. As more teams integrate artificial intelligence functionalities into Apple applications, features, and services, the company is reallocating its resources to adapt its workforce to these evolving priorities.
Strategic Focus Moving Forward
These staff reductions occur while Apple concentrates a significant amount of short-term effort on developing smart glasses. Despite the cuts across several divisions, the company reassured employees that both Vision Pro and visionOS will continue to be actively developed. Therefore, this reorganization does not signal an end for Vision Pro; rather, it involves redirecting resources toward Siri, artificial intelligence advancements, and Apple’s future device lineup.
