Anthropic has unveiled Claude Fable 5.1, a new version of its artificial intelligence model designed specifically for software development, intellectual work, and long-duration autonomous tasks. This latest iteration promises improved performance while simultaneously lowering the cost associated with certain usage patterns and refining security mechanisms.
Key Advancements in Claude Fable 5.1
Claude Fable 5.1 builds upon Fable 5 by making advances across several crucial domains, including software development, reasoning, intellectual work, and executing complex tasks over extended periods. According to evaluations published by Anthropic, the model demonstrates notable progress on benchmarks such as Terminal-Bench 4.0, Humanity’s Last Exam, and CursorBench 3.2.0.
Cost Efficiency Improvements
One of the most significant advancements is in usage cost reduction. Anthropic has cut the price of cache reads by 75%, bringing the rate down to $0.25 per million tokens. For standard token-billed workloads, the company estimates that Fable 5.1 costs approximately 25% less than Fable 5. On certain complex programming tasks and specific highly agentic usages, these savings can reach nearly 45%. The base rates for input and output tokens remain unchanged.
Enhanced Security Mechanisms
Anthropic has also evolved the model's security mechanisms to reduce unwarranted blocking. With Fable 5.1, users can now utilize the model to identify software vulnerabilities within a defensive work scope. The company reports that these new cybersecurity protections are expected to result in about 60% fewer interventions per Claude Code session compared to those using previous Fable 5 safeguards. Furthermore, Anthropic is preparing Enterprise Frontier Safeguards, a system designed for businesses. This system will allow companies to keep their data within an infrastructure cloud they control while still maintaining robust mechanisms for detecting abusive usage. The deployment of these safeguards is scheduled to begin progressively in the fall.
